Over 50 people attended the Maumee Garden Club March 14 talk by Hal Mann about Native Plants. Due to a scheduling conflict at the Maumee Branch Library, the talk was moved to the Way Library in Perrysburg. Mann spoke about the importance of using native plants to benefit local animals, birds and insects. This follows a meeting last year with the Environment Club at Wayne Trail Elementary, where the students take pride in using native plants on the grounds of the school. Coming up on April 16 from 1-3 pm also at the Way Library, the Black Swamp Conservancy will hold a workshop on vegetable gardening. A full spectrum including soil prep, seed selection, pest control and end-of-season best practices will be discussed. There is a $10 fee for the workshop, which is limited to 20 participants.
