Maumee will host its annual fireworks display over the Maumee River at 10 pm on Sunday evening, July 3. I remember fondly when my parents lived on West Harrison, friends and family would gather in the backyard as the perfect viewing spot. Parking was at a premium but everyone managed to find a place. After the fireworks, it was a tradition to serve sloppy joes, chips and drinks. That night the house was filled with mosquitoes from everyone going in and out of the house! One year, a baby deer got frightened from the crowds down by the towpath and came up through our yard. I’ll always remember that year. The deer finally found its way safely back to the woods.
