The Maumee Garden Club has participated over 15 years in the Claire’s Day book and student reading recognition event. It began when the club held a sanctioned flower show inside the Maumee Branch Library. Members selected a book and then designed a floral arrangement to accompany the book on shelves throughout the library. There was also a selection of horticulture specimens that were judged and on display during the show as required by National Garden Club requirements. It was because of that event, the club decided to offer flowers to the children who came to the event. And ever since, the Club has set up a booth and offer the children a chance to plant a flower or receive a starter tree. Watch for this family friendly event the third week each May.
