They’re back … both fish and those who wish to capture them! Hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of fishermen and women descend on Maumee and its surrounding neighbors to lure those wily walleye that return to the Maumee River to spawn. Often shoulder-to-shoulder, these lovers of fishing try their casts to net a few of these prized fish. Our city benefits from this spring ritual through hotel and motel stays, dining out, gas fill-ups and money spent at our local bait and tackle shops. I have fond memories of the year Maumee had giant fiberglass fish painted by local artisans and citizens and displayed around the city.
